Conduct Your Research

Using databases from this LibGuide, gather information in the following areas. Please search for information in a minimum of 3 databases

 

Create Your Presentation

You will use the information that you gather to create a oral presentation using the outline below.

Slide 1: Introduction

Content:

  • Briefly introduce yourself and your chosen topic.
  • Briefly mention your connection to Before We Were Free

Slide 2: The Oppression and Injustice

Content:

  • Describe the historical context and the specific injustice faced by the group involved.
  • Explain who benefited from the oppressive system and who suffered under it
  • Provide specific examples of the injustices experienced

Slide 3: The Rise of Resistance

Content:

  • Introduce the key figures involved in the movement.
  • Explain what motivated them to take action and fight the injustice.
  • Describe the core principles and objectives of their movement.
  • Explain the specific methods they used to challenge the system (e.g peaceful protests, boycotts, marches).

Slide 4: Impact and Outcome

Content:

  • Describe the impact of the movement on the oppressive system.
  • Explain how it brought awareness, challenged the status quo, and mobilized supporters.
  • Highlight the successes and achievements of the movement.
  • Share specific examples of how their actions led to change (e.g., laws being passed, policies changing, increased awareness).
  • Acknowledge any ongoing challenges or setbacks faced by the movement.

Content:

  • Explain how the changemaker you researched connects to the themes and characters in Before We Were Free
  • Share your own reflections on the importance of fighting for justice and equality.

  • Reflect on what actions you could take to promote justice and equality in your own life or community.
